Adventure dogs place repetitive, asymmetric load on a fixed set of structures. Three variables drive most performance decline over a working career:
- Muscle mass loss. Sarcopenia accelerates past mid-life. Reduced contractile capacity alters stride length, shock absorption, and the way force transmits through the kinetic chain.
- Cartilage and synovial fluid degradation. Joint surfaces thin, lubrication drops, range of motion narrows before pain signals appear.
- Bone density and pad condition. Repetitive impact plus mineral imbalance shifts load tolerance; overgrown nails and worn pads redistribute force to palmar and plantar surfaces.

A maintenance cadence and the new monitoring layer
